Camden Bay Chamber Concert: Héctor Del Curto’s Eternal Tango Quartet

We are so fortunate to have the Bay Chamber Concerts here in Camden and Rockport. Since 1961 this non profit organization has provided classical, jazz and world music plus dance events to our mid coast area. They also provide educational opportunities to Maine musicians along with scholarship prizes.

The next Bay Chamber Concert is Héctor Del Curto’s Eternal Tango Quartet. This concert will be held on Sunday, May 8th at 7pm at the Camden Opera House. The Bay Chamber Concerrts website states: “Heralded by The New York Times as a ‘splendid player,’ with special mention for his ‘wistful, piercing solos on the bandoneón,’ Argentinean musician Héctor Del Curto has captivated audiences around the world. Come experience tango at its finest with Héctor Del Curto’s Tango Quartet. FeralTango, a professional Tango couple, will be dancing onstage to Héctor Del Curto’s music.”

Leave the shoveling and bags of sand at home and join us for a two-night getaway with a gourmet twist. $327 – 487, based on room selection (double occupancy) thru March, 2011. 102 Days till Sailing Season

Mary Jo and I snuck away for lunch last week (to Boynton McKay) with Captain Jack and First Mate Barbara from the Schooner Surprise. We had a great lunch, as usual, and enjoyed some great company. Jack and Barbara are enjoying their Winter break but are looking forward to the upcoming sailing season, only 102 days away. If you are planning a trip to Camden between Memorial day weekend and the third week of October, I insist that you get out on the Surprise for one of their outstanding 2 hour adventures. Their local and nautical knowledge paired with the vast beauty of Penobscot Bay (not to mention the thrill of sailing on an old historic schooner) add up to a vacation memory not to be missed. After lunch we wandered down to the waterfront in Camden and I took a snapshot of them with Surprise floating in the background in the icy waters. “Maine’s Fall Foliage Show Expected to be Magnificent”, according to state officials.

Maine’s Department of Conservation has just released it’s first Fall Foliage report for 2008 and the forecast is for a colorful season.
