Take a Maine cooking class! There are multiple ways that you can Join Chef Michael in the Hartstone kitchen. Choose from our popular Chef for the Day package, to group classes, or even private classes.

Classes cover a wide range of topics. These include regional and ethnic cuisines to seasonal and holiday offerings.

If you are looking for the ultimate Foodie Adventure then join Chef Michael in Tuscany, France or Catalonia!

Chef for the Day

Be a chef for the day! Join Chef Michael in his Camden, Maine restaurant kitchen for a private one-on-one cooking class. The chef for a day program runs from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and is available with advance reservations. Students will assist Michael in preparations for that evening’s dinner and will also get specialized training on prearranged topics.

The afternoon begins with a review of the evening’s dinner menu and assignment of duties. After a quick tour of the kitchen and orientation, you will work side-by-side with chef preparing dinner. If you have a preference to learn about one of Chef Michael’s recipes or a specific type of cuisine, Michael can work with you in advance to make those arrangements. We recommend you join us for dinner that evening to enjoy the dishes you helped prepare.

Chef For The Day Includes:

  • 4-hour one-on-one instruction
  • Menu of the Day
  • Personalized-Signed copy of Chef Michael’s Cookbook
  • Hartstone Inn apron
  • Food tasting

Course Cost: $350 for first person — add a second person for $50 (second apron included).

Private Cooking Classes

Do you have a group that would like to have a private cooking class with Chef Michael? Choose from over 25 different courses created by Michael. Or, choose individual recipe items from his cookbooks. Classes require a minimum of 6 students and are available November through May. Cost for the 2 hour private class is $350 for up to 6 participants and $45 per person for additional enrollment, up to a maximum of 12 students.

Hartstone Cooking Classes

Our Maine cooking classes are informative, entertaining, and of course, filled with delicious food. Weekend packages are $357 – $575 and include two nights lodging and enrollment for one in the cooking class. Also included are breakfast each morning, afternoon cookies and tea, and a gourmet candlelit dinner for two.

Additional enrollment into our Maine cooking classes is $45 per person. Classes are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays from 1-3pm. See schedule of classes below for specific class dates and topics.
